Bengal Fish Fest Twenty Fifteen


Ornamental Fish Exhibition:

Ornamental fish has gained prominence in International trade and plays a significant role in the economy of developing countries like India. Both Government of India and Government of West Bengal have initiated several steps to popularize ornamental fisheries. The Ornamental Section of the Exhibition is one such initiative that offers a unique platform for all the stakeholders to showcase their products to the leading fish importers/exporters across the world and to facilitate business tie-ups. We are confident that Bengal Fish Fest Twenty Fifteen will act as a catalyst for the development of ornamental fishery as a commercial and export oriented enterprise. As the collaborative partner of this event, we extend a wholehearted welcome to you to participate in the Bengal Fish Fest 2015.

Joseph Itzkovich, Tel Aviv, Israel.                                            Topic: Commercial Biosecure Guppy Culture
Director - D'gei Israel Aquarium Ltd.

He holds a Master degree in Fish Biology and is the pioneer of ornamental tropical fish culture in Israel. Having more than 30 years of experience as a fish biologist in the ornamental fish industry, most of the large ornamental farms in Israel were guided by him. Joseph was a Director in OFI (Ornamental Fish International) for a decade, representing Israel.He has judged several times in Aquarama, the Largest Biannual International fish competition in Singapore and also delivered lectures there. He has planned and designed farms in Thailand, Singapore, Morocco, Japan, Romania, and India. Mr. Itzkovich was chosen by the Indian Government as the official consultant of MPEDA (Marine Products Export Development Authority) for training people and developing Ornamental fish trade in 2001.

Andrew Lim, Penang, Malaysia.                                                                Topic: New Genetic Strain of Guppy.
President - World Guppy Association,
President Malaysia Guppy Club, Asia Pacific Director - International Guppy Education & Exhibition Society.

He has organised the largest guppy competition in Asia, the World Guppy Contest in 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, with 700 pairs of entries and participants from over 20 countries. He is an active participant in major aquatic exhibitions with his public seminars and judging courses. He has been actively involved in the international guppy scene from 2003 and has judged more than 25 guppy competitions worldwide. He has won more than 30 awards from guppy competitions internationally. Now his main focus is in developing new strains of guppy and is also working on his book Poecilia Reticulata.

He is the Rajiv Gandhi Chair for MHRD for Contemporary Studies. He is one of the members of Kerela State Costal Zone Management Authority, Ministry of Enviornment and Forest, Government of India. He is also a member of the Scientific Panel of Fish and Fisheries Products, The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.

Prof (Dr.) T. Jawahar Abraham                                         Topic: Ornamental Fish Deseases in West Bengal.
Professor (Fish Microbiology) - Dept. of Aquatic Animal Health,
Faculty of Fisheries Sciences, West Bengal University of Fisheries and Animal Sciences.

He has two ongoing projects as Principal Investigator: (i) Niche Area of Excellence programme on  “Surveillance of diseases of aquacultured finfish and shellfish in West Bengal and development of disease management strategies”, ICAR  New Delhi, (ii) All India Network Project on “Fish Health”, ICAR-CIBA, Chennai and ICAR,  New Delhi. He is the Scientific Reviewer in 10 National and International Journals and has published 145 papers in scientific journals.
